Nefes [ breath ].

The Nefes project was established in October 2019. Drawing inspiration from the repertoire of the traditional music of Mediterranean and the Balkans, the workshop practices original contemporaneous arrangements especially for voices. It explores the range of possibilities of the sound of the human voice and the body, including, in addition to singing, speech, melodic harmony, vocal sounds, polyphonic rhythmicity with voice and body, rhythmic narration in dance, etc. By composing the above material, different versions of polyphony are created with the aim of telling a complete musical story with an uneasy plot.

To date, the Nefes project has presented the musical performance "The Mediterranean sings" at the "Neighborhood’s Room", in Thessaloniki, at the Cosmopolis festival in Kavala, at the Tentart Festival in Drama, at the 3rd Handmade & Recycled Theater Festival in Athens as well as the music performance "From love to death" at the Folklore and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia - Thrace. In November 2023 the group recorded the first album, which will be released in autum 2024. In May 2023 Nefes presented the sound performance "Disorderly World" - motet for voice variations, in the framework of the "Open Theater Stage of the City", organized by the Directorate of Culture & Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. In June and July 2024, presented the musical performance "A CAPELLA - The Suite of Fantastic Beings", at different music stages and open-air theaters in Thessaloniki.
