Songs of Shame
Final Concert of the Educational Programme on Gender-Based Violence through Folk Song
The educational programme Songs of Shame, implemented during the 2025–2026 school year in secondary schools across Thessaloniki, concludes with a large open-air concert.
Nefes Vocal Ensemble, together with students and teachers from the 2nd Secondary School of Neapoli, the 5th Secondary School of Neapoli, and the Music School of Thessaloniki, present the outcome of a months-long collective artistic and educational process through songs, music, and original creations.
Based on the book-CD Songs of Shame by musician and performer Natalia Lampadaki, the programme approached Greek folk song as a space for reflection on gender stereotypes, violence, and the social perceptions reproduced through traditional narratives.
Through a series of experiential workshops facilitated by Nefes Vocal Ensemble, participants analysed traditional songs, engaged in discussions, sang together, and created new lyrics, rewriting narratives of gender-based violence and making space for new voices, new words, and new ways of relating to one another.
The final concert is an open invitation to experience this journey of young people, where music becomes a tool for expression, dialogue, and social change.
